Aleyda’s Prenatal Massage: Tailored Care for Every Stage of Pregnancy

Aleyda’s Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is an excellent way to promote overall well-being during pregnancy and relieve aches and pains associated with a blossoming belly. At Aleyda Mobile Spa, we understand the importance of tailored care for expecting mothers. In this guide, we’ll explore the core prenatal massage areas during the different stages of pregnancy, helping you understand how this gentle yet therapeutic mommy massage can support you through each stage.

First Trimester (Weeks 1-12):

Usually, prenatal massages are not performed during the first trimester because this is an unstable stage of pregnancy that carries an increased risk of miscarriage. However, the American Pregnancy Association does not discourage massages for pregnant women in any trimester, and there is no scientific evidence against pregnancy massages in the first trimester.

In Singapore, the industry practice is to wait until long after the first trimester or around week 15. If you feel that this is the right time for a massage, speak to our consultants to find out if we can make an exception. Our therapists can use gentle techniques to help ease nausea, reduce fatigue, and promote a sense of calm. For your peace of mind, they will avoid pressure points in the body that are believed to initiate contractions or induce labour.

Second Trimester (Weeks 13-26):

The second trimester, better known as the “honeymoon phase” of pregnancy, is when many women experience a decrease in symptoms. At this stage, prenatal massages focus on relieving muscle tension and common discomforts like lower back pain and leg cramps. However, unlike regular massages, the strokes are more gentle and soothing, and light stretching may be added to improve mobility.

During pregnancy, expectant moms typically need more magnesium, and a deficiency can result in muscle cramps, especially in the legs. Aside from upping their magnesium intake, we recommend our expecting clients include our Magnesium Therapy in their prenatal massage during the second and third trimesters. Sourced from the ancient Zechstein seabed, our magnesium oil delivers magnesium transdermally to the bloodstream to reduce the frequency and severity of muscle cramps, induce relaxation, and boost the quality of sleep.

Third Trimester (Weeks 27-Birth):

As the foetus grows, the expectant mother’s body goes through significant changes, leading to increased strain on muscles and joints. Their pelvis expands to accommodate the growing foetus, producing higher hormone levels, such as relaxin, which loosens the pelvic ligaments. The additional weight of the foetus also causes changes in the body’s centre of gravity and affects overall posture and gait.

During the third trimester, prenatal massages are great for relieving tension in the muscles surrounding the joints, improving circulation, and providing overall relaxation and comfort for the expecting mother. Stretched ligaments and tired muscles can feel very tender when pressed, so be sure to let your therapist know so that they can accommodate your comfort level.

In the third trimester of pregnancy, the body’s natural adjustments can also lead to increased pressure and reduced hip mobility. This lack of mobility restricts blood and lymph flow and causes swelling in the legs and feet, a common discomfort experienced by many expecting mothers. Prenatal massage helps alleviate this swelling by improving circulation and reducing fluid retention.
