In Singapore, the industry practice is to wait until long after the first trimester or around week 15. Stretched ligaments and tired muscles can feel very tender when pressed, so be sure to let your therapist know so that they can accommodate your comfort level.
In the third trimester of pregnancy, the body’s natural adjustments can also lead to increased pressure and reduced hip mobility. This lack of mobility restricts blood and lymph flow and causes swelling in the legs and feet, a common discomfort experienced by many expecting mothers. Prenatal massage helps alleviate this swelling by improving circulation and reducing fluid retention.
